There are so many things that we can get into in our lives. Movies, music, video games, cooking, photography, what have you. I will tell you this. There is one thing in life that if you get into it while you are young, it will pay off in your golden years. That thing is fitness. Possibly, my favorite thing to do life is anything fitness related. Sports, physical activity, anything, I love it all. I remember growing up and not being just a marginally physically active boy. I was slightly overweight, not really realizing that my lack of regular exercise what of any concern at that time. I mean, I was just a young boy before I hit my teens. I played outside and stuff, but I wasn’t in any school or team sports like I should have been. When you’re young like that, you don’t know everything yet about life. Like the consequences of long-term physical inactivity. That and when you’re just a kid you feel sort of indestructible because your body is still developing to its peak and you’re impetuous. You’re impulsive and ready to take on the world head on.
So I just coasted through life not being physically active until after college. That is when I had a lot of free-time after schooling to actually focus on my body and health. I just started going to 24 Hour Fitness and then my new life as a physically active man started at 23 years old. That decision that I made to finally get my body in check was one of the best decisions ever in my life. Now that I have left my 20’s, I feel so good, inside and out. I feel that I learned a lot about myself becoming and staying physically active. There are so many things that I can do and continue to do because I take care of myself so well. I can run, hike, bike, swim, stretch and dance and at times I make it look so easily. You can tell that I love what I do because I do it so effortlessly, like it’s second nature. Several years of being physically active has made me realized that fitness is not just a hobby, it’s a lifestyle. Fitness is something that you share with your family and friends because you want to keep them around for a a very long time. The great thing about fitness is that it’s not a selfish activity. I love sharing my love for fitness with others. We bond together when we give each other the gift of health.
So for this new year, I encourage you to prioritize your health at the top of your to-do list. You will not regret, trust me. I am healthier and happier because of that decision made to take control of my health several years ago.
